Unexpected Puppies

Unexpected Puppies

It was my intent to blog five days in a row before the year ended. Last Monday we received two Great Pyrenees puppies. I’ve been told that puppies are like newborns so I was ready for it. What I wasn’t ready for was the puppies having worms and trying to figure out how to treat them. I ended up buying deworming medication from PetSmart and began treating the female puppy only. Unfortunately, shortly after I administered the medication, she began to have seizures. So you can only imagine that blogging was no longer a priority. After witnessing her having multiple seizures in one day, I decided to bring them both to the vet. The vet told me that all the tests were normal for Matcha and that she possibly had an allergic reaction to the medication. When I brought her to the vet, she literally looked dead. I never thought she would revive out of it. At the end of the day, she began to eat, but for two days straight in the row, she would cry constantly. I noticed that because of the seizures she was not seeing clearly. So I decided to take matters in my own hands, and I began to feed her very healthy food. I added Chia seeds in her meals and to calm her nerves down I gave her valerian root. One and a half weeks later, she’s doing much better, but I still notice that she does not see clearly. Google research says that sight can return even after weeks. I never imagined that an animal can be almost dead, but bounce back quickly, if well tended to.

Milo and Matcha will end up being livestock dogs on our farm, so I began training around the chickens. Matcha is a little bit rambunctious and the chicken likes to pack at her. She’s quickly learning to maintain healthy boundaries.
