I'm blogging everyday till the end of the year, weekends not included, of course.
First on the list, our lovely chickens. This is a must as we figured out a couple of must needed solutions for our coop.
First, the scenario: We don't live on the farm, coming in weekly during the summer and less often during the winter. Therefore a solution was needed for properly watering and feeding the chickens. After multiple failures, we finally figured out a solution in regard to watering our chickens or making sure our chickens have plenty of fresh water.
Picture this: Walking into a chicken coop with two waterers set up from Tractor Supply, definitely not cheap, and having to disinfect it weekly from algae build up because of, well, the heat and sun. Quite disgusting.
The solution? By accident I stumbled upon one. The story is long so I will save you the read and give you the quick version: An oversized jug igloo and BriteTap Chicken Waterer. Just follow the instructions. What does this do? It keeps the water nice and clean and cool, even when in the sun. The BriteTap is used as a chicken spigot and is currently under patent. Brilliant! I love it and wish I would have figured out this fix sooner. One egg is turning out to be $20 for me! Now, for the winter months, the igloos are set on a heated base. We did pull an outdoor extension cord from the barn to the coop in order to get the bases running. We have no electricity in the coop.
For feeding we are very pleased with the 85 pound metal poultry feeder. We have two of them set in the coop and it works for us. We purchase our feed at a local feed two towns over, 50 pounds of organic feed for $17.
I've linked what we used and purchased for our coop. We don't receive any commission. My heart behind my blogs are truly to help and share information. Till tomorrow's blog, try not to get too excited...
